Book “The Fascinating Ancient East”
Written by Mikhail Starostin, a teacher and historian specializing in Oriental studies, this book is intended for history teachers and anyone interested in the history of the Ancient World.
The illustrations were created by artist Elizaveta Serova. The book features two distinct types of illustrations. Faithful reproductions of museum artifacts and historical reconstructions are integrated primarily within the text. Artistic illustrations accompanying myths, legends, and fragments of epics are presented on separate pages against a black background, resembling chalk drawings on a slate board.
Each section of the book opens with a double-page spread featuring a schematic map of the region. The margins feature marginalia containing reference material—terms and definitions.
Short plays, poems, and musical pieces with sheet music are collected at the end of the book. They can be used in history lessons to immerse students in particular historical topics.
