Board game “Outline the Situation”
“Outline the Situation” is a fun board game where you have to guess what the author meant.
The game was created by Marfa Ageenkova, a student who studies several languages and collects unusual phrases and clever linguistic quirks. We played a hand-drawn prototype of the game at a New Year’s party with friends, were absolutely thrilled, and decided to professionally design it and launch a print run.
The core element of the game is a deck of cards featuring witty, multi-layered phrases. These include quotes from world literature, idiomatic expressions, memes, and famous lines from movies, songs, and cartoons, spanning a wide variety of styles and tones. The drawer’s task is to illustrate the phrase on the card. Since the texts are tricky and cannot be drawn literally, players have to use their imagination and come up with visual metaphors. The other players watch the creative process unfold and try to guess the exact phrase or quote being depicted.
Every game session is unique, and it never ceases to amaze us how many different ways there are to bring the meaning of familiar words to life.
